Top 5 Applications for Learning

The digital revolution has made its way into teaching and learning, and students are discovering that smartphone and tablet apps are the latest learning tools. From reading to productivity, apps can help students stay on track and discover new ways to study.

E-Books

Having an e-book at your fingertips gives you the opportunity to study from anywhere. You can either choose to read them online, on an e-reader or tablet, or you can print them out for future reference material. When you have an e-book downloaded for your college class, the learning experience will become that much simpler and quicker to make class preparation a breeze. Amazon’s Kindle app, Apple’s iBooks, and Barnes and Noble’s Nook app can be used on a variety of computers and devices. Many digital texts are free; but the textbooks available are rarely much cheaper than their paper counterparts. Amazon, Chegg and other online retailers have e-books for sale.

Evernote

Evernote is a productivity app that allows you to take notes, clip pages and images from the web, and share notes with friends. You can also search your notes and clippings using Evernote’s search tool. Using this app can make studying with classmates easier no matter where you are. You can also download notes from friends and read them on your tablet, smartphone or computer. Evernote is free, but if you need extra space there’s a small monthly fee.

Google Calendar

Google Calendar is a surprisingly useful tool, especially for people who rely on more than one calendar for work, school or other events. You will never have to worry about missing out on an important event again because the calendar will keep you up-to-date on everything that you need to do. If you have to send an email to your classmates or instructor, you will be able to so through the integration with your Google email account.

GRE Connect/GRE Tutor

You can use GRE Connect to access hundreds of pages in review material, as well as over a thousand questions that have everything fully explained in them. There are also loads of words in flashcard format to allow you to train yourself and prepare for that test in no time at all. When you take the tests using the app, you will get a progress report to track your performance. There is also the option of setting up a study event with all of your friends.

Jot Not Scanner Pro

This is the perfect application for scanning in multiple pages of a document or your notes for studying later. You will be able to access them at any time and even edit or delete what you don’t need. The possibilities are endless, but this application makes the whole process of saving information that much easier.

Using apps for learning can give students several advantages; in addition to being able to learn on the go, students can also share what they learn with classmates and instructors. As apps become more popular, it’s possible that they’ll change the way students learn.
